RIPON, Wis. - Knox College's women's soccer team proved that their unbeaten conference record is not a fluke Sunday afternoon, defeating Ripon 3-0. The Prairie Fire also out-shot the Red Hawks 19-3, including 10-2 in the second half, which saw Knox score a pair of goals.
Angelica Gamez put Knox (10-5-1, 5-0-1 MWC) on the board in the 14th minute when she notched her first goal of the season on a corner kick. The Prairie Fire then waited until the second half to add to their lead, as Corina Leyva netted her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Jessica Petersen in the 55th minute. They would cap the scoring in the 74th minute when Kayla Brown took a pass from Alex Robertson for her 10th goal of the year.
"Knox made it difficult for us to get out of second gear," Ripon Head Coach
Greg Ruark said. "I felt as though we were on our heels most of the game and when we were able to create chances, we couldn't sustain it long enough."
Miye Aoki-Kramer played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks (9-4-0, 3-3-0 MWC), making 15 saves. Knox saw Sierra Daniger and Katy Coseglia combined for three saves in the shutout.
Ripon will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to UW-Platteville. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Platteville, Wis., and can be seen live atÂ
