DUBUQUE, Iowa - Ripon's women's swim team opened the 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon with a 117-104 dual meet victory at Loras College. The Red Hawks recorded four individual first-place finishes, while also winning a relay event.
"I'm really happy to win and do well at our first meet of the season," Ripon Head CoachÂ
Ryan Goggans said. "A close competition like that is a full team effort and that was shown today by how many different people won events."
In the 200 freestyle, freshman
Cierra Boutelle swam a time of 2:09.65 to win the event by three seconds.
Erin Barrie was also victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:33.92, which was nearly 10 seconds better than the second-fastest time.
Lateesha Hiser placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.13, while
Allison Roetz took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.88, which was more than three seconds better than the next-best time.
In relay competition, Ripon's 200 freestyle team of Boutelle, Hiser,
Katherine King, and
Abby Hilker swam a first-place time of 1:49.87, which was eight seconds better than the second-place team.
"Every swimmer did well today and we can take that and continue to improve the rest of the season," said Goggans.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on October 28 when at 1 p.m. when they'll host fellow Midwest Conference school Lawrence University for a dual meet at Willmore Center.
