RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team scored three first half goals Wednesday afternoon, as they coasted to a 4-1 victory over Lawrence University. The Red Hawks controlled the game from the opening kick, out-shooting the Vikings by a 36-5 margin, including 22-2 in the second half.
Although Ripon (10-6-0, 4-4-0 MWC) possessed the ball for the majority of the contest, it was Lawrence (2-15-0, 0-8-0 MWC) who scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a goal by Chloe Gierymski. Less than three minutes later, Ripon knotted the score up at one on
Hannah Mahr's first goal of the season, thanks to an assist by
Brianna Schnell. The Red Hawks took their first lead of the game in the 17th minute when
Paige Pierce scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, which was assisted by
Maeve Kim. That gives Pierce 22 career goals, which moves her into 10th place in program history.
The game's other two goals each came off the foot of Ripon freshman
Maggie Bouque, giving her three goals on the season. Her first came in the final minutes of the first half to give the Red Hawks a 3-1 halftime lead, while her second capped the scoring in the 80th minute.
"This was a tough game against a tough opponent, but we kept the pressure on and were rewarded for some good offensive play," Ripon Head Coach
Greg Ruark said. "Defensively, we were excellent."
Miye Aoki-Kramer was the winning GoalKeeper, making three saves in 87 minutes. That gives her 116 saves on the year, which is tied for 10th in program history for a single season. She also now has 198 career saves, which ranks sixth in school history. Lawrence Goal Keeper Katlyn Seiffert played all 90 minutes, recording 17 saves.
Ripon will wrap up their season on Saturday when they'll host Lake Forest College on what will be Senior Day for the Red Hawks. That game will begin at 1 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live atÂ
