JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's women's basketball team won their seventh consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating Illinois College 83-63 in a game the Red Hawks never trailed. Ripon's average margin of victory during their current winning streak is 23 points, with all but one of those wins coming by double digits.
Ripon (15-6, 13-3 MWC) dominated Saturday's game from start to finish, out-rebounding Illinois College 50-14 and recording more offensive boards (16) than IC had total rebounds (14). The Red Hawks outscored the Lady Blues in second-chance points by a 16-0 margin.
Megan Jensen scored the first eight points of the game in a span of less than two minutes and
Emma McDonald connected on a 3-pointer to put Ripon up by double digits just over three minutes into the contest. Illinois College would cut that lead to one in the second quarter, but Ripon extended their lead to seven on a
Maddie Koster jumper just before halftime.
Ripon took command of the game again in the third quarter, outscoring Illinois College 19-8 in the period and the Red Hawks would lead by double-digits for the majority of the second half. Ripon shot 55 percent (32-58) in the game, including 46 percent (5-11) from 3-point range, and also converted 82 percent (14-17) of their free throws.
Maggie Oimoen led Ripon with her sixth career double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Nicole Herkert added 15 points, four rebounds, and five assists, while Jensen scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Jensen is shooting 61 percent (14-for-23) from 3-point range in Ripon's last six games.
Illinois College (11-10, 8-8 MWC) was led by Brielle Greenleaf's 25 points and three steals. Shannen Quehl added 13 points, while Sydney Lett added nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Ripon will try to extend their winning streak on Tuesday when they'll travel to Lawrence University, which is a team they defeated by 53 points earlier this week. Tuesday's game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. and can be seen live at
