Red Hawks Swept By Franklin & Marshall

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Ripon allowed six runs in both games of Monday's doubleheader, as the Red Hawks lost both games to Franklin & Marshall by scores of 6-1 and 6-3, respectively.

The day's first game saw Franklin & Marshall (5-4) get on the board early with a run in the top of the first, scoring on an RBI single. The Diplomats added another run in the third on a run-scoring single, and plated three more in the sixth on five hits, scoring on a double, a single, and an error.

Franklin & Marshall scored another run in the seventh on an RBI single, before Ripon got on the board. The Red Hawks' lone run came in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Robbie Schuettpelz, scoring Doug Ferrell from second base.

Ripon (0-5) finished the game with eight hits, with Bennett Groves, Isiah Ramos, and Schuettpelz each finishing with two. David Knapp (0-1) struck out two batters in five innings of work, but took the loss.

In the second game of the twinbill, Ripon was the team to get on the board first, as a Riley Erickson single drove in Randy Finger in the top of the first. That lead didn't last long, as Franklin & Marshall scored three runs in the bottom of that inning.

The Diplomats added two more in the fourth and another in the sixth before Ripon tried to mount a comeback in the seventh and final frame. Groves continued swinging a hot bat, driving in two runs with a two-out single to cut the lead to three, but the next batter was retired to end the game with two runners on base.

The Red Hawks out-hit Franklin & Marshall 8-6 in the second game. Finger and Erickson led Ripon with two hits apiece. Garrett Kaczrowski (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.

Ripon will be in action again on Tuesday as they'll play just one game, squaring off against Eastern Conneticut State at 9:45 p.m. Eastern Time in Winter Haven, Fla.
