CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon split a pair of games Monday morning, highlighted by a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win against Macalester College. That followed a 3-2 loss to Bethel (Minn.) University to begin the day.
In that first game, Bethel scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning, getting two runs on a single by Anna Nichols and another on a single by Hannah Schmidt.
Ripon answered with a run in the bottom of the first, as
Tene Robinson scored on a single by
Lexi Reetz. The Red Hawks added another run in the second on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. That would be all the runs they would get however, as Bethel closed the game with five scoreless innings.
Reetz took the loss, despite striking out seven batters, while pitching all seven innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Bethel finished with six hits, with two coming from Jana Roste. Nichols allowed one earned run on two hits, while also pitching all seven innings.
In the day's second game, Reetz (1-2) showed how dominant she can be, allowing just two hits, while striking out five in her second complete game of the day.
Offensively, Ripon finished with six hits against Macalester, scoring four of their five runs in the bottom of the third, which included RBI from
Julia Sanchez,
Stephanie Cartwright, and
Melanie Kobelt. The Red Hawks capped the scoring in the following inning with another RBI by Sanchez, scoring
Emily Kollmann from third base.
The Red Hawks will now have an off day on Tuesday, before getting back on the field Wednesday with games against University of Minnesota-Morris and Westfield State at 10:30 a.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET, respectively.
