Red Hawks Can't Get Past Hot-Hitting Brockport Squad

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Ripon's bats came alive Wednesday morning, pounding out a season-high 11 hits, but SUNY-Brockport's bats were a little hotter. Brockport finished with 16 hits, helping them defeat the Red Hawks 13-6, while scoring the final seven runs of the contest.

Ripon (0-7) got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Riley Erickson scored the game's first run on a Brockport error, which was followed by a two-run single off the bat of Nick Taranto.

That lead lasted until the third inning when Brockport's offense started to get going with six runs on five hits. Those six runs came on a pair of two-run singles, and a double down the left field line that also scored two runs. That lead didn't last long, as Ripon answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Josh Oswald doubled in a run to start the scoring in that frame, while Hector Aguinaga and Isiah Ramos each drove in a run with a single.

Tied at six entering the fifth, Brockport grabbed the lead one last time, scoring on a two-out sac fly. They then added two runs apiece in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to coast to victory.

Ripon was led by three hits apiece by Aguinaga and Taranto, while Oswald recorded two hits. Chris Huettner (0-1) took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run in his two innings of relief.

Nik Malachowski led Brockport with a 4-for-5 performance that included two RBI. Avery Brooks added three hits, to go along with two RBI and two runs scored, while Mike D'Eletto added two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Jimmy Lovelass (2-0) picked up the win by pitching three innings of scoreless ball in relief, while giving up just two hits and striking out two.

Ripon will try to break into the win column on Thursday against Benedictine University at Lake Myrtle Park in Winter Haven, Fla. That game will begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time with LiveStats available at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/benu/.
