AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Ripon sophomore
Brice Swick pitched the best game of his Red Hawks career Thursday, but it was not enough, as Benedictine (Ill.) topped Ripon 1-0 behind a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Swick (0-2) recorded the first complete game of his career, allowing just six hits and one run in his nine innings of work. The Kimberly, Wis. native also posted a career-high 10 strikeouts, which is the most by a Ripon pitcher in a game this season.
The game's only run came with two outs in the top of the seventh inning when Benedictine's Tanner Kiser smacked a solo homer over the rightfield fence. Swick would only allow one more hit to the Eagles (2-2) the rest of the game.
Benedictine pitcher Frank Greco (1-0) was just as impressive, allowing just five hits and striking out 12, while walking one, in the complete game shutout.
Ripon (0-8) will wrap up their Spring trip Friday against McDaniel College. That game will begin at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time/1:30 p.m. CT at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
