CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon's softball team split a pair of games Thursday, defeating Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 6-1, before losing to Oswego State 9-1 in six innings.
In the day's first game, pitcher
Lexi Reetz (3-2) turned in another outstanding game for the Red Hawks (3-5), allowing one run on six hits in the complete game, while striking out 10 batters for the second consecutive game without issuing a walk.
Reetz was also strong at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Ashley Parkkonen added a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, scoring a run and driving in another. Freshman
Julia Sanchez broke a school record for walks in a single game with four.
Ripon didn't fare as well in the second game, as Oswego State (4-4) jumped on the scoreboard early with four runs in the bottom of the first. They added another run in the second before Ripon got on the board on an RBI single by Sanchez in the fifth, which scored
Casey O'Malley from second base. Oswego would finish the game with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined.
The Red Hawks finished with four hits in the game with two coming from
Stephanie Cartwright. Oswego recorded 14 hits in the contest.
Ripon will bring their Spring trip to a close on Friday when they'll face UW-Stevens Point and Norwich University in Clermont, Fla. at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time, respectively. The games can be seen live on Pay-Per-View atÂ
