MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team remained undefeated and untied Wednesday night with a 3-0 win at Wisconsin Lutheran, improving their 2017 season record to 5-0-0. The Red Hawks controlled the tempo for much of the game, out-shooting Wisconsin Lutheran 17-7.
Ripon waited until the very last second of the first half to get on the board, scoring on
Brianna Schnell's third goal of the season, thanks to an assist from
Stephanie Neumann.
The Red Hawks doubled their lead in the opening minute of the second half when freshman
Meghan McCarthy netted her first career goal on an assist from
Jacie Verstegen. Fellow freshmen Maeve Kim gave Ripon some insurance later in the half with her third goal of the season, beating the defenders by herself and scoring on a shot to the left of the Goal Keeper.
"It was a bit of a struggle in the first half, although scoring with one second remaining helped the mood at halftime," Ripon Head Coach
Greg Ruark said. "We were decidedly better in the second half by playing quicker, making good decisions, and creating chances that we were able to convert."
Ripon Goal Keeper
Miye Aoki-Kramer played all 90 minutes, recording two saves for her fifth career shutout, which moves her into fifth place in program history. Wisconsin Lutheran (1-4-0) also saw their Goal Keeper, Hailey Krause, play the entire game, making six saves.
The Red Hawks, who are currently ranked 10th in the North Region, will look to remain undefeated on Friday against University of Dubuque. That game will begin at 4 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live atÂ
