Cardiac Kids: Ripon Defeats Dubuque In Overtime To Remain Unbeaten

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team improved their season record to 6-0-0 Friday afternoon with a 2-1 overtime victory against University of Dubuque. Ranked 10th in the North Region, three of Ripon's six wins this season have come in overtime. The Red Hawks are now 16-0-0 in the month of September during the last two years, and have won their last 19 September games, dating back to the 2015 season.

Dubuque (2-2-1) out-shot the Red Hawks 16-5 in the game, including 9-2 in the first half, and controlled the tempo for the majority of the contest. Ripon fell behind in the 16th minute when Dubuque's Tiffany Limmex scored her second goal of the season, which would be the only scoring in the first half.

Ripon waited until the 76th minute to tie the score, as Maeve Kim netted her fourth goal of the season, kicking the ball over the Goal Keeper who tried to clear the ball out of the box. After neither team scored for the remainder of regulation, Paige Pierce stepped up for the Red Hawks in OT, scoring the game-winner four minutes into the extra period on assists from Brianna Schnell and Meghan McCarthy.

"To turn this game around after being dominated in the first half is a testament to the resiliency that our players have," Ripon Head Coach Greg Ruark said. "We were very poor when the game started and well into the first 50-55 minutes, but we managed to claw our way back, hang on just a bit, and then we scored two great goals."

Ripon Goal Keeper Miye Aoki-Kramer played the entire game, making 11 saves. Dubuque's Victoria Roethler also played the entire game, recording two saves.

The Red Hawks will try to keep their magic alive on Sunday, when they'll face arguably their toughest test of the season at UW-Stevens Point (4-2-0). That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Stevens Point, Wis. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/uwsp/, with LiveStats available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/uwsp/wsoc/.http://www.sidearmstats.com/uwsp/wsoc/.
