Red Hawks Win 2017 Ripon College Quad

RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks split a pair of matches on the second and final day of the 2017 Ripon College Volleyball Quadrangular to finish the event with a 2-1 record, which was tied with both Simpson and UW-River Falls. The teams had to go to a third tie-breaker (total competition percentage) to determine the champion, as Ripon edged out Simpson (.700 to .667) for the crown.

In the morning session, Ripon defeated Finlandia 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-22). The Red Hawks (5-11) posted a season-high hitting percentage of .298 in the match, while also registering 46 kills. Jonalee Elliott led the way with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .357, which helped her earn one of four spots on the All-Tournament Team. Kat Kulas added 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .667, to go along with a team-high four blocks. Emily Allard also chipped in with nine kills, in addition to 12 assists and six digs. Olivia Heck led the Red Hawks in assists (23), while Stacie Klika led them in digs (17).

Ripon ended the day with their only loss of the weekend, falling to Simpson College in four sets. The Red Hawks won the first frame 25-20, before losing the next three, 17-25, 16-25, 16-25. Allard led the team with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .314, while Elliott posted 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. Heck again led the Red Hawks in assists (23), while Klika's 20 digs also led the team. Kendra Holte contributed a team-high four service aces in the loss.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll make the short trip to Marian University for what will be the final tune-up before conference play begins next weekend.
