Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Red Hawks Rebound With Win At Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Ripon's women's soccer team rebounded from Saturday's conference-opening loss with a 2-1 victory at Cornell College on Sunday. The game was evenly played throughout, with Ripon holding a 13-12 edge in total shots.

After a scoreless first half, it was Cornell (1-9-0, 0-2-0 MWC) which struck first, scoring on a goal by Ashley Quesada just 29 seconds into the second period. The score would remain 1-0 until the 80th minute when Ripon's Paige Pierce notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season to tie the score, thanks to an assist from Maeve Kim. With four and a half minutes left in regulation, Ripon (7-2-0, 1-1-0 MWC) took its first lead when Brianna Schnell scored the game-winning goal.

"Today was another difficult game, but when we went down a goal, our play picked up significantly," Ripon Head Coach Greg Ruark said. "Our players were relentless, and I thought and hoped that if we got one goal, we might get a second."

Ripon Goal Keeper Miye Aoki-Kramer played all 90 minutes, making seven saves. Her counterpart, Nell Rosenthal saved six shots in 90 minutes of action for Cornell.

The Red Hawks will try to build on Sunday's performance next weekend when they'll host St. Norbert College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will serve as Ripon's 'Play For The Cure' Game. All fans in attendance are asked to wear pink to raise cancer awareness and donations will be accepted throughout the day.
