Ripon Hires Steve Wammer To Lead Softball Program

RIPON, Wis. - After a nationwide search, Steve Wammer has been hired as the 11th Head Coach in Ripon College softball history. He takes over a program that won 13 games in 2017, which marked their highest win total in five years. The Red Hawks have also appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice in the past 10 years.

Wammer comes to Ripon after a 15-year stint at Northland College where he led the LumberJills to seven appearances in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, which is the second-most appearances during that span. He led Northland to 229 victories during his 15-year tenure, including the 2008 UMAC Tournament Championship. In addition to his coaching duties, Wammer also served as Director of Athletics and Chief Compliance Officer at Northland.

"We are excited to welcome Steve to the Red Hawks family," Ripon College Athletic Director Julie Johnson said. "With his experience and previous success, we're looking forward to Steve taking Ripon's softball program to the next level."

Prior to his time at Northland, Wammer served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Student Activities at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Ill., where he was also Head Men's Basketball and Associate Head Women's Basketball Coach. He has also spent time at UW-Barron County, where he coached basketball and soccer, and at Concordia (Minn.), where he coached baseball and basketball.

Wammer received a B.A. in Physical Education from Concordia (Minn.), before earning his Master's in Kinesiology with Coaching Emphasis from Texas Woman's University. He is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA).
