Red Hawks Win First Game of Music City Classic

GALLATIN, Tenn. - Ripon forced 22 turnovers, which they turned into 22 points, en route to a 63-59 win against MacMurray College Saturday afternoon in their first game of the 2018 Music City Classic. The game featured 11 lead changes during the first 29 minutes.

MacMurray (3-7) scored the first four points of the game, before Ripon (5-5) scored the next seven. Freshman Drew Jorgensen kept the Red Hawks in the game, eclipsing his career high before halftime with nine points off the bench, including three of his four 3-pointers on the day. Ripon led by five with three and a half minutes left in the half, but MacMurray scored seven of the next eight points to take a lead with under a minute to play, only to see Cal Schultz answer with a layup to give the Red Hawks a 34-33 lead at the half.

The two teams continued to play a closely contested game in the second half, with neither team leading by more than five until a Trent Jones 3-pointer put the Red Hawks up by eight with nine minutes remaining. That lead vanished with four and a half minutes on the clock thanks to a 10-2 MacMurray run, but a Tyson Tully dunk put Ripon in front for good with under four minutes to play.

Jorgensen led Ripon with a career-high 14 points, while fellow freshman Tyson Tully also recorded career-highs of 13 points and seven rebounds. Schultz added 13 points and four steals, while Jones produced nine points, three steals, and team-highs of nine rebounds and four assists.

MacMurray was led by Logan Dorethy's game-high 22 points, to go along with six rebounds. Wade Fox added eight points and six boards, while Hunter Flesner chipped in with five points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Ripon will try to keep things rolling on Sunday when they'll play their second and final game of the Music City Classic against Bridgewater State. That game will begin at 3 p.m. in Gallatin, Tenn., and will have LiveStats available at https://stat.center/scorerstable-live.html.
