RIPON, Wis. - Trailing by one point at halftime Wednesday night, Ripon's women's basketball team outscored Beloit 49-27 in the second half, en route to a 75-54 victory over the Buccaneers. The Red Hawks scorched the nets to the tune of 72 percent (18-25) after halftime for a shooting percentage of 55 percent (29-53) in the game. The Red Hawks also dominated down low, out-rebounding Beloit 48-35, while also outscoring them 50-10 in the paint. They also held the Buccaneers to just 26 percent (20-77) shooting, including 19 percent (8-42) in the second half.
The lead changed hands several times in the first quarter, before Ripon (3-5, 3-0 MWC) ended the quarter on a 10-2 run, scoring 10 consecutive points at one point. Beloit (0-7, 0-3 MWC) slowly climbed back into the game in the second quarter, which they began with an 8-1 run to tie the score at 21 with four minutes remaining before halftime. The Buccaneers would grab the lead on a jumper by Shelby Kline in the final seconds.
Ripon scored the first basket of the second half on a
Maggie Oimoen jumper to take a one-point lead, and they would never look back. Oimoen scored the first six points of the third quarter, which was part of a 12-0 run by the Red Hawks to begin the period. Ripon outscored Beloit 27-8 in that quarter, taking an 18-point lead into the fourth. They would continue to lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game, with their largest lead of 25 coming in the final minutes on a jumper by
Skyylar Brescia.
Oimoen served as Ripon's leading scorer for the third consecutive game, notching 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while also pulling down six rebounds (four offensive).
Natalie Geiger tied a career-high with 12 points, while
Jesi Nay scored seven and
Alyassa Burgess recorded six points and a career-high 11 rebounds (three offensive). Eleven Red Hawks scored at least one point in the game.
Beloit was led by Kline's 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Candace Cunningham registered 16 points and nine rebounds (seven offensive).
