Ripon Drops Pair of Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon fell to the University of Scranton and Deleware Valley College by scores of 4-2 and 6-0, respectively, on the Red Hawks' second day of action at The Spring Games.

In the first game of the day, Scranton (3-2) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third with an RBI single. They would add three more runs in the fourth on a pair of RBI doubles and a run-scoring single. Ripon (3-7) had a chance to cut into that lead in the bottom of that inning, getting runners on second and third with just one out, but could not capitalize, as the next two batters were retired.

The score remained 4-0 until the bottom of the seventh when Ripon mounted a comeback. With two outs in the inning, Emma Hall got the Red Hawks on the board with a home run over the left field fence. Two batters later, Micaela Encarnacion followed suit with a two-out home run down the left field line. Tene Robinson then singled to put the tying run at the plate, but that batter was retired to end the game.

Ripon finished the game with six hits, two of which came off the bat of Robinson, including one double. Jessica Kobelt pitched excellent in relief, allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings of shutout ball.

The day's second game saw Deleware Valley (4-2) jump on the board early with four runs in the bottom of the first, keyed by a two-run single and a double that scored two more. Deleware added two more in the second on a single up the middle and that would account for all of the scoring in the contest.

Despite the score, Ripon out-hit Deleware Valley 8-7, led by two hits apiece from Encarnacion, Robinson, and Teara Morgenroth. Isabella Osborn and Lexi Reetz also registered a hit in the game.

Kobelt again pitched lights out, giving up just two hits in 4.2 shutout innings of relief, while striking out five batters.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll face Westfield State and Endicott at 10:30 a.m. Central Time and 1 p.m. Central, respectively.
