Red Hawks End Spring Trip With A Split

CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon Softball's Spring Trip came to an end Friday, as they lost to SUNY-Geneseo 8-0 in five innings, but finished on a positive note with a 1-0 one-hit shutout against Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham.

In the early game, Ripon (6-10) fell behind early and could never recover. SUNY-Geneseo (9-2) scored an unearned run in the top of the first on an RBI double, before adding three more runs in the third on a bases loaded double that cleared the bases. Geneseo capped the scoring in the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits, scoring twice on a triple to right center, and two more runs on a pair of RBI singles.

Ripon managed two hits in the contest, with Tene Robinson and Teara Morgenroth doing the honors.

In the day's second game, Ripon was the team that shut down the opposing offense, as junior Lexi Reetz (5-3) pitched seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and tying a career-high with 12 strikeouts, while walking just one, in the complete game shutout. Those 12 strikeouts are tied for 10th in program history for a single game.

The lone run of the second game came in the top of the fifth when Camryn Hamilton scored from second base on an error by FDU's left fielder.

Ripon finished with four hits in the pitchers duel, as Hamilton, Micaela Encarnacion, Molly Potter, and Kayley Grabowski each recorded a base knock.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Thursday when they'll travel to Trinity International (Ill.) for a doubleheader in Wheeling, Ill. at Heritage Park. The first game of that twinbill will begin at Noon.
