Ripon Earns Sweep of Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - Ripon picked up their first two conference wins of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Beloit College 3-0 and 2-1.

The Red Hawks (8-14, 2-2 MWC) earned the sweep behind the pitching of Lexi Reetz (7-5), who started both games, pitching all 14 innings, giving up just five hits without allowing an earned run. She also tallied 16 strikeouts in the two games combined, while walking just one batter.

In the day's first game, Reetz pitched her third one-hitter of the season, while striking out 11 in her third shutout of the year. She was helped by her offense, which took the lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple by Isabella Osborn. Ripon added two more runs in the fifth on a double by Osborn, who finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate. The Red Hawks finished with six hits in the game.

Reetz scattered four hits in her seven innings in the day's second game, while striking out five and Beloit's only run coming unearned. Ripon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on Micaela Encarnacion's second home run of the season, as she deposited the ball over the fence in right center. The Red Hawks extended their lead the following inning on an RBI double by Brooke Bauer, scoring Reetz from second base. The lone run for Beloit (3-17, 0-2 MWC) came in the bottom of the sixth, but that was not enough.

Ripon recorded four hits in the game, with three going for extra bases. All four of Beloit's hits were singles.

The Red Hawks will try to keep their momentum going Tuesday when they'll host St. Norbert in the Red Hawks' 2018 home opener. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at Tracy Field in Ripon. That twinbill will also mark the first time in program history that the games will be webcast, which can be viewed at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/, along with LiveStats.
