BELOIT, Wis. - One day after splitting a doubleheader with Beloit, the two teams met again, with the Buccaneers taking both games of the twinbill from Ripon. The Red Hawks lost the first game 5-3, before dropping the nightcap by a score of 19-10.
Ripon wasted no time in getting on the board, as
Michael Barnes homered to center in what was just the second batter of the first game. That lead didn't last long, as Beloit scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second.
Ripon cut that leda to one in the fifth when
Keegan Johnston drove in a run with a single to right field. Beloit recorded an RBI single of their own in the bottom of the fifth, but Ripon stayed in the game in the sixth when Barnes drove in
Tyler Nelson with an RBI triple. Beloit would add another run in the sixth, which would be enough for the victory.
Both teams finished with 10 hits. Ripon was led by
Hector Aguinaga's 4-for-5 performance, while Barnes went 2-for-5 at the plate.
The two teams combined for 29 runs and 30 hits in the second game, which saw Beloit score first on a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. A
Josh Oswald sac fly got Ripon on the board in the second, before the Red Hawks tied the score in the third on an RBI single by Barnes. Later in that inning, Ripon took the lead on a two-run single from Aguinaga.
That lead didn't even last a full inning, with Beloit scoring five runs on four hits in the third. Ripon scored four runs of their own in the fourth, including a two-run double by Nelson, and a single by Barnes, which scored two more runs to take an 8-7 lead. Beloit tied the game with a run in the fifth, but Ripon grabbed the lead again in the sixth on an RBI single by
Nick Taranto.Â
Beloit then opened the game wide open in the seventh, which saw them score six runs. After a solo homer by Taranto in the top of the eighth, Beloit added five more runs in the bottom of that inning to put the game away.
Ripon finished with 11 hits, with Barnes, Taranto, Aguinaga, Oswald, and
Riley Erickson recording two apiece.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Marian (Wis.) for a single game at 6 p.m. That game will be played in Fond du Lac, Wis., and can be seen live atÂ
