RIPON, Wis. - Ripon held Carroll to just three second-quarter points Saturday afternoon, en route to a convincing 63-48 victory. The Red Hawks shot 38 percent (22-58) from the field, while holding Carroll to just 29 percent (17-59) shooting, including 17 percent (5-30) in the first half.
Ripon (3-1) scored the game's first four points, but Carroll used an 11-5 run to take a two-point lead into the second quarter. In that second frame, the Red Hawks scored the first 12 points to take a 10-point advantage midway through the quarter. They would lead 26-14 at halftime.
Carroll (2-3) was able to get that lead down to four points in the third quarter, but a
Jesi Nay 3-pointer sent Ripon into the fourth quarter leading by seven. The Red Hawks began that final quarter with a 14-2 run to take their largest lead of 19 with five minutes to play, and coasted from there.
Freshman
Alison Leslie led all scorers with 15 points, to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Nay and
Skyylar Brescia both added 10 points off the bench.
Alyassa Burgess and
Bonnie Jensen also chipped in with nine and seven points, respectively. Jensen finished with a game-high eight rebounds, as the Red Hawks out-rebounded Carroll 47-33.
Carroll was led by Katie Evans' 10 points. Theresa Wichser added nine points, while Brooke Foster scored eight off the bench, to go along with five rebounds.
