RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team lost to UW-Oshkosh Sunday afternoon 62-55, despite out-shooting the Titans 40 percent to 35 percent. The game was won and lost at the free throw line where UW-O shot 63 percent (17-27), while Ripon converted just 36 percent (4-11) of their foul shots.
The first quarter featured one tie and three lead changes, but UW-Oshkosh (7-4) used a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead with three minutes to play in the opening period. The Red Hawks (6-3) battled back to cut that lead in half on an
Alyassa Burgess jumper with seven and a half minutes left in the second quarter. UW-O would take an 11-point advantage into halftime after Olivia Campbell drilled a 3-pointer in the final seconds.Â
Ripon once again cut the lead to five mid-way through the third period on a
Bonnie Jensen layup, but that's as close as the Red Hawks would get the rest of the night. UW-O would score the final 13 points of the period to take an 18-point lead into the final frame. That lead extended to a game-high 19 points, but Ripon battled back, scoring 11 consecutive points to cut the lead to eight with five minutes remaining. The Red Hawks would pull within six on a few occasions in the final minutes, but that's as close as they would get.
Burgess led the Red Hawks with 14 points and nine rebounds (four offensive), while Jensen added 11 points and nine boards.
Kiana Fall chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
UW-Oshkosh was led by Leah Porath's 18 points, while Emily Miller added 11 points and six rebounds. Abby Kaiser and Brooke Freitag each scored eight points.
