CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon Senior pitcher
Lexi Reetz notched her third complete game shutout of the season in as many starts, helping Ripon split two games Sunday in what was their first game action on their annual Spring Trip to Florida. The Red Hawks defeated Nichols College 3-0 to begin the day, before losing to Nebraska Wesleyan by a score of 9-1 in six innings.
Reetz (3-0) extended her scoreless streak to 21 innings to start the season with a two-hit masterpiece in the opener, which saw her record five strikeouts and just one walk. In addition to her season ERA of 0.00, Reetz has also notched 28 strikeouts in her 21 innings, allowing eight hits, including just one that went for extra bases. Opponents are hitting .111 against her on the year.
Ripon (3-3) received an early offensive punch from
Micaela Encarnacion, who teed off on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning, knocking the ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season, and third of her career. The Red Hawks' other two runs came in the sixth, as
Isabella Osborn knocked in a pair with a single to center, scoring Reetz and
Julia Sanchez.
In their second game of the day, Ripon fell behind early, allowing a run in both the second and third frames, before allowing two more in the fourth. The Red Hawks finally got on the board in the top of the fifth, as
Emyli Kreiser scored on a fielding error to cut the lead to 4-1. Nebraska Wesleyan (12-4) would rally again in the later innings however, plating three in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth, ending the game.
Ripon will be in action again on Monday when they'll face Bethany (W.V.) and Wesleyan University at 9:15 a.m. ET and 1:45 p.m. ET, respectively. Both games will be played at Legends Way Field in Clermont, Fla.
