Ripon Extends Win Streak To Six Games With Sweep of Knox

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team extended their current winning streak to six games Saturday afternoon, marking their longest win streak in four years, with a pair of wins against Knox College. The Red Hawks won game one 8-4, before also taking the nightcap by a score of 10-5.

Ripon's offense wasted no time getting heated up, as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning during the first game. Riley Erickson drove in the game's first two runs with a double to right, followed by an RBI single by Keegan Johnston and a run-scoring triple off the bat of Noah Herried.

After Knox (6-21) pushed one run across in the second, Ripon (11-10) matched that with a run of their own in the bottom half of that inning on an RBI single by Joey Garza. The Prairie Fire scored again in the fourth, but Ripon answered once more with two of their own runs in that same inning, as Michael Barnes and Erickson each drove in a run. Knox attempted to mount a comeback with two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4, but it was not enough, with Ripon tacking on an insurance run in the eighth on another RBI single from Garza.

Ripon finished with 12 hits, led by Erickson's 3-for-5 performance at the dish, which included a game-high three RBI. Barnes, Garza, and Johnston each added two hits. Brice Swick (3-2) earned the victory, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and striking out five in six innings of work. Austin Fox picked up his third save of the season with three hitless innings of relief, which saw him strike out three batters.

The day's second game began much like the first, with four Ripon runs in the bottom of the first. Garza got the scoring started with a two-run single to center. He would later score on a wild pitch, before Herried drove in a run on a groundout. Knox answered with three runs in the top of the second, but Ripon would extend their lead even more in the third with four more runs. Jacob Pankratz began that rally with an RBI single to center, followed by a Tyler Nelson sac fly, and a two-run double to left off the bat of Nick Taranto. The Red Hawks put the game out of reach in the fifth, scoring two more runs to make the score 10-4.

Ripon finished the game with 14 hits, led by three apiece from Herried and Pankratz. Barnes and Erickson each added two base knocks. Kade Lancour (2-1) earned the victory, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three in five innings. Brian Brown picked up the first save of his career, allowing two runs and striking out six in four innings of relief.

The Red Hawks are scheduled to be in action again on Tuesday when they'll host Wisconsin Lutheran in a single game at 4 p.m. That game can be seen live, with LiveStats at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
