DE PERE, Wis. - One day after defeating St. Norbert in come-from-behind fashion, the Ripon baseball team lost a pair of games to the Green Knights, falling 4-2 in game one, before losing 14-2 in seven innings in the nightcap.
All of St. Norbert's runs in the first game came in the opening inning, which saw four runs score on five hits, including a two-run double. Ripon (5-9, 1-2 MWC North) pushed across their first run of the game in the top of the second when
Keegan Johnston doubled in
Tyler Nelson. The Red Hawks would score again in the third on an RBI single by
Nick Taranto, but that would be the extent of the scoring, as St. Norbert (7-9, 2-1 MWC North) held on for the victory.
Both teams finished the game with seven hits, with Nelson leading Ripon with two base knocks.
Brian Brown (1-2) pitched well, but suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work, while striking out five and walking none.
Kade Lancour added two scoreless innings of relief, in which he allowed just one hit.
St. Norbert's bats came alive in the second game, scoring once in the first and twice in the second, before breaking the game wide open with a seven-run third inning. Ripon got on the board in the fourth with a leadoff home run by
Michael Barnes, his first of the season and seventh of his career. St. Norbert added four more runs in the fifth, before Ripon could cap the scoring with
Nick Taranto's first homer of the season and fifth of his career.
Ripon finished with 10 hits, with Barnes going 3-for-4 at the plate. Nelson and Noah Herreid each added two hits. St. Norbert recorded 18 hits in the game, led by three apiece by Jack Maastricht, Michael Larsen, and Sean Ferraro.
