CHICAGO, Ill. - One day after sweeping a doubleheader against the University of Chicago, the Maroons returned the favor, defeating Ripon 11-5 and 10-0 to split the season series with the Red Hawks. The losses end the Red Hawks' winning streak at eight games, which is their longest in four years.
Chicago (15-6, 4-2 MWC) never trailed during the day, breaking a scoreless tie in game one with a five-run second inning. Ripon (13-12, 7-5 MWC) got two of those runs back in the third, as Jake Pankratz scored on a balk and
Tyler Nelson scored on a single up the middle by
Michael Barnes. The Red Hawks added a run in the fourth when
Keegan Johnston scored on a wold pitch, but that's as close as they would get, as the Maroons added three runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to put the game away. Ripon scored two runs in the ninth on RBIs from
Riley Erickson and Johnston, but it wasn't enough.
Ripon's six hits came from six different players. Chicago finished the game with 15 hits, led by three hits apiece from Payton Jancsy and Connor Hickey.
Game two was dominated by Chicago, who scored at least one run in all seven innings, including four in the third. They finished with 14 hits, while limiting Ripon to just one, which came off the bat of Nelson. Hickey again led Chicago with three hits, while Brian Lyle scored three runs.
Ripon is scheduled to be in action again on Tuesday when they'll travel to Lakeland College. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Plymouth, Wis., and can be seen live, with LiveStats atÂ
