Ripon Drops Pair of Games To Finlandia

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's softball team lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Finlandia on Wednesday, dropping the first game 11-8 and the second by a 7-0 margin.

In the day's first game, both team scored once in the first inning, with Ripon (6-12) scoring on an RBI double by Cortney Bols. Finlandia (7-17) then took the lead with a pair of runs in the third, but Ripon cut that lead in half on an RBI single up the middle by Addison Lindsey.

Ripon tied things up with a run in the fourth when Micaela Encarnacion scored on a wild pitch. Finlandia would take the lead for good with an eight-run sixth inning, which saw 14 batters come to the plate. Ripon would score five runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough.

The Red Hawks finished with 10 hits, with two apiece coming from Encarnacion, Bols, and Bre Ollech. Encarnacion scored a game-high three runs, while Lindsey led the team with two RBI.

In the day's second game, the two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie until the top of the fifth when Finlandia scored six runs on six hits. The Lions would add one more run the following inning to cap the scoring.

Ripon recorded eight hits in that second game, led by Claire Luebke's 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Finlandia finished with 14 hits, with three players recording more than one.

The Red Hawks will jump back into conference play on Saturday when they'll travel to Illinois College. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ic/.
