JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, falling to Illinois College 3-1 and 8-0.
The first game of the day saw Illinois College (7-7, 2-0 MWC) get out to an early lead with a run in the first and another in the third. The Lady Blues took a 3-0 lead with a run in the fifth when they scored on an error. Ripon (6-14, 1-3 MWC) attempted a late comeback with a run in the sixth on an RBI single by
Claire Luebke, but they would leave two runners on base to stall their rally.
Ripon would finish the game with three hits, coming from Luebke,
Lexi Reetz, and
Bre Ollech. Reetz (6-4) suffered the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out eight batters in yet another complete game.
Illinois College earned the sweep with an 8-0 win in game two, scoring at least one run in all five innings. Ripon's lone hit in that game came from Luebke.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Sunday when they'll travel to Monmouth College. That doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
