RIPON, Wis. - Sunday's men's soccer game was a hard-fought game on both sides, but Illinois College escaped with a 3-2 victory on rain-soaked Prarie Field. The Blueboys also held a 17-15 shot advantage in the contest.
Illinois College (5-6-2, 1-1-0 MWC) wasted no time, scoring the game's first goal just 18 seconds after kickoff, as Christian Lopez was assisted by Spencer Bloome. Ripon (0-9-1, 0-2-0 MWC) tied things up less than five minutes later on
Esteban Borja's second goal of the season.
After the two teams went into halftime tied at one, Ripon took their first lead of the contest nine minutes into the second half when
Christian Millan scored his third goal of the year on an assist from Borja. That lead lasted less than a minute, as Lopez's second goal of the game knotted up the score at two. Just when it looked like things were headed to overtime, Illinois College's Patrick Marker found an open net goal with less than three minutes remaining, giving the Blueboys the victory.
Kenny Smith played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making four saves. Illinois College's Raul Rubalcava also played the entire game, saving seven shots.
Ripon will be in action again on Saturday when they'll host Lake Forest College. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon, and can be seen live at
