RIPON, Wis. - Ripon was taken to the limit Wednesday afternoon, but in the end they came out on top, narrowly defeating Edgewood in five sets.
The Red Hawks took the first and third sets by identical 25-19 scores, but lost the second and fourth sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-18, respectively. The match then all came down to the final set, which saw Ripon score the final two points to secure the victory.
Ripon (2-2) finished with 48 kills in the match, led by 12 apiece from
Emily Allard and
Brooke Bauer, the latter of which also finished with a .308 hitting percentage. Freshman
Lydia Ellis added a career-high nine kills and a .304 hitting percentage, to go along with nine blocks (two solo).Â
Micaela Encarnacion led all players with 24 digs, while freshman
Ellie MacKenzie posted a career-best 40 assists.
Edgewood (1-4) was led by Mackenzie Doherty's 13 kills, while Seghan Northey and Abbey Maier each added 11. Northey led the team with six blocks (one solo), while Britany Sager contributed team-highs of 24 assists and three service aces for the Eagles.
Ripon will be in action again on Friday when they'll battle Lakeland University at 5 p.m. on the first day of the two-day UW-Stevens Point Pointer Invitational. That match in Stevens Point, Wis. can be seen live atÂ
