RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team extended its Midwest Conference win streak to 15 games Saturday afternoon, as they moved to 8-0 in the MWC this season with an 82-61 victory against Illinois College. The Red Hawks dominated down low, scoring nearly as many points in the paint (58), as Illinois College scored all game (61).
Ripon (12-3, 8-0 MWC) scored the first basket of the game via an
Alison Leslie 3-pointer, and they never looked back, holding that lead for the remainder of the game. Illinois College (8-7, 4-4 MWC) pulled within one in the opening minutes, but Ripon ended the opening quarter on a 17-3 run to take a 22-7 lead into the second quarter. The Red Hawks led by double digits for the entire second period, taking a 43-25 lead into halftime.
Freshman
Bonnie Jensen scored the first two baskets of the second half to extend Ripon's lead to 22. They would lead by as many as 28. The Red Hawks shot 54 percent (35-for-65) from the field, including 36 percent (5-for-14) from 3-point range, while Illinois College converted 41 percent (21-for-51) of their shots.
Jensen led Ripon with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while also recording seven rebounds (three offensive), four assists, and two blocked shots.
Skyylar Brescia also produced 14 points and seven rebounds, despite playing just 16 minutes off the bench.
Megan Dille also chipped in with 10 points.
Illinois College was led by Grace Yaunches' 16 points and five assists, while Lilly Pepper recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.
Ripon will hope to keep a stranglehold on first place in the MWC standings on Tuesday when they'll host Beloit College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Willmore Center, and can be seen live atÂ
