RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team remained undefeated in conference play Wednesday night with a 72-56 win against Lawrence, marking their 25th consecutive win over the Vikings, dating back to the 2006-07 season. Ripon lived at the free throw line Wednesday night, shooting 30-for-35 (86 percent) from the charity stripe. That marks the second-most free throws made in a single game in program history, just one shy of the school record.
The first half featured two ties and four lead changes, the last of which came on the first basket of the second quarter, a jumper by
Alyassa Burgess. The Red Hawks (9-3, 5-0 MWC) extended that lead to seven, which was cut to just one with two and a half minutes to play in the period. Ripon would enter halftime with a 30-26 lead.
Both teams scored 18 points in the third quarter, as Ripon took a 48-44 lead into the final frame. The Red Hawks then took control of the contest, going on an 8-2 run to take a 10-point advantage with under eight minutes remaining. Lawrence (4-8, 1-4 MWC) would get within eight later in the quarter, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Ripon was led by freshman
Kiana Fall's career-high 14 points, to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Fellow first-year player
Bonnie Jensen added 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals, while Burgess chipped in with 11 points and eight boards. Freshman
Alison Leslie added 10 points for the Red Hawks.
Kenya Earl led Lawrence with 22 points and six rebounds. Shonell Benjamin added 14 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Grinnell College. That game will begin at 3 p.m., and can be seen live atÂ
