RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's volleyball team put up a strong fight against co-conference leader Grinnell College Saturday afternoon, before falling to the Pioneers in four sets. The Red Hawks won the first set 25-22, before losing the next three 25-20, 25-18, and 26-24. Grinnell (14-9, 5-0 MWC) recorded 58 kills and a hitting percentage of .200, while Ripon (8-14, 0-4 MWC) posted 41 kills and a .112 hitting percentage.
Ripon was led by
Arynn Mathieu's 11 kills, while
Inesha Wiseman and
Lydia Ellis each finished with 10.
Riley Nielsen posted a team-high 37 assists, while
Micaela Encarnacion led the Red Hawks in both service aces (5) and digs (21).
Grinnell's Kaylin Kuhn led all players with 21 kills, while Rachel Woock and Olivia Jensen each recorded 10. Julianna Roth chipped in with a match-high 41 assists for the Pioneers, while Kuhn led the way with 21 digs.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday when they'll travel to Appleton, Wis. to take on Lawrence University. That match will begin at 7 p.m., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/lawrence/. Visiting fans are not permitted at Friday's match due to Lawrnece's COVID-19 restrictions.
