Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ripon Drops Home Opener To UW-Platteville

In what marked the 1,000th game in Ripon College Women's Basketball history, the Red Hawks lost to UW-Platteville Wednesday night by a score of 65-58. Ripon never trailed in the first half, but a six-point third quarter and 32 percent (8-25) shooting in the second half spelled doom for the Red Hawks.

Ripon (1-2) came out firing in the first half, as a three-point play by Alison Leslie got the Red Hawks on the board first. They would take an early 7-4 advantage before UW-Platteville (2-1) tied the score at nine. Ripon then scored the next nine points, and would lead by four at the end of the opening quarter. UW-Platteville would tie the score again in the second period, but Ripon again answered with eight consecutive points to grab some breathing room. Sarah Mueller would score for the Pioneers just before halftime to cut Ripon's lead to two at the intermission.

UW-Platteville's Lilliana Guerra connected on a 3-pointer for the first points of the second half, giving the Pioneers a lead that they would never relinquish. After entering the fourth quarter trailing by six, Cydney Pittinger pulled Ripon within four on the first basket of the period, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the night. UW-Platteville would hold Ripon at arm's length the rest of the way, leading by as many as nine points.

Leslie led all scorers with 23 points on 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Kiana Fall added 13 points and a game-high four assists, while Skyylar Brescia posted five points and nine rebounds off the bench. The Red Hawks shot 36 percent (21-58) from the field and 29 percent (5-17) from 3-point range.

UW-Platteville was led by Maiah Domask, who posted a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds (three offensive). Lara Anger added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench, while Guerra scored 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting, as she made both of her 3-point attempts.

Ripon will try to rebound on Friday when they'll battle St. Norbert at the UW-Oshkosh Tournament. That game will begin at 5 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/uwosh/#live.
