Ripon Wins Non-Conference Matchup Against Bethany Lutheran

RIPON, Wis. - Less than 24 hours after defeating UW-Whitewater, Ripon's men's basketball team added another non-conference victory to their resume, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 84-69 in a game that the Red Hawks didn't trail after halftime. Ripon shot 49 percent (33-67) from the field, including 38 percent (6-16) from 3-point range, while Bethany Lutheran converted 41 percent (25-61) of their shots.

The two teams played evenly for the first 12 minutes, with neither team leading by as many as five points. The Red Hawks (7-3) extended their lead to 10 late in the half on a layup by Jaylen Mahone, and they would go into the half leading by seven after a Bethany Lutheran 3-pointer in the final seconds.

Ripon led by double digits for the majority of the second half, taking their largest lead of 23 points in the final minutes on a jumper by Wesley Woods. Eighteen different Ripon players earned playing time in the contest, while 10 Red Hawks cracked the scoring column.

Mahone led all scorers with 17 points, while Ryan Steffes added 16 points and a career-high nine rebounds, to go along with four assists and four steals. David DeValk chipped in with 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots, while Luke Meinholz scored a career-high 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench.

Bethany Lutheran (4-6) was led by Cire Mayfield and Justin Schrupp, whom each scored 16 points. Jared Milinkovich and Hunter Nielsen each added 10 points for the Vikings.

Ripon will be in action again on December 29 when they'll take part in the UW-Oshkosh Winter Classic against UW-Stout. That game will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
