JOLIET, Ill. - Ripon's baseball team dropped a pair of games to Benedictine (Ill.) Wednesday afternoon. The Red Hawks lost the first game 7-1, before falling 6-0 in a shortened five-inning affair.
The first game saw Benedictine (Ill.) (2-3) jump on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first. They would add two more in the third and four more in the fifth before Ripon got on the board in the top of the ninth. Ripon's lone run came when
Andrew Betcher drew a bases loaded walk, which allowed
Nick Tenny to cross the plate.
Ripon (2-9) finished with six hits, with half of those coming from Tenny, who went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Nick Terrell,
Anthony Zak, and
Aaron Kurcz also recorded one hit apiece.
Hunter Thompson pitched well in relief, hurling three scoreless innings, while allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.
Game two saw Benedictine (Ill.) again jump on the board early, scoring three runs in the first, before taking a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Eagles added two more runs in the fifth before the game was ended prematurely.
Benedictine (Ill.) out-hit Ripon 6-4, with Ripon's four hits coming from Terrell, Tenny,
Keegan Johnston, and
Jake Pankratz.
The Red Hawks will be in action again Friday against Marian (Wis.). That doubleheader will begin at Noon at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon, Wis.
