RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's tennis team picked up their first team victory of the young season Saturday afternoon, defeating Lakeland University by a score of 7-2. The Red Hawks won four of the six singles matches, while winning all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-9.
In singles play,
Drew Jorgensen won his top-flight match by a score of 6-1, while
Daniel Garcia came from behind to win his third-flight match, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Vince Ireland and
Eugene Pliska were also victorious for the Red Hawks, winning at the number four and five flight, respectively, by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1.
Garcia and Pliska also teamed up to win their doubles match at the second flight by a score of 8-2. At the top flight, Jorgensen teamed with
Preston Wurtz to win 8-3, while Ireland and
Jonah Roeper won at the number three spot by a score of 8-4.
The Red Hawks (1-1) will try to use this momentum next Saturday when they'll host MSOE at 9 a.m. inside The Fieldhouse at Willmore Center.
