LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Ripon's softball team let a lead slip through their fingers in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, which saw the Red Hawks lose to Lake Forest by a score of 7-6. That secured a sweep for Lake Forest after the Foresters won the first game 6-0.
In that first game, Lake Forest scored one run apiece in the second and third innings, before opening the game wide open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Each team finished that contest with eight hits.
Ripon was led by a 3-for-4 performance atop the Red Hawks' lineup byÂ
Micaela Encarnacion.
Addison Lindsey and
Alyssa Banta each finished with two hits, while
Abby Gilbertson recorded the team's only other hit. All eight of those hits were singles.
The day's second game again saw Lake Forest jump on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the first. Ripon battled back however, scoring runs on anÂ
Anna Bauer triple and on an error, which saw
Victoria Duran credited with the RBI.
Ripon would grab their first lead of the day in the following inning, which saw Bauer draw a bases loaded walk to tie the game at three, before Duran drove in another run on a groundout. Encarcacion then gave the Red Hawks a 6-3 advantage after three. That lead would be short-lived, as Lake Forest scored three times in the fourth, before crossing the plate with the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Ripon finished with six hits from six different players, while Bauer scored a team-high two runs. Duran and Encarnacion led the team with two RBI apiece.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll travel to Beloit College. That doubleheader can be seen live at 3 p.m. at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/ with LiveStats available at https://beloitcollegeathletics.com/sidearmstats/softball/summary.
