Ripon Falls To Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - Ripon's softball team lost both games of Thursday's doubleheader at Beloit College, narrowly falling 7-6 in game one, before dropping the second game 8-4.

The Red Hawks struck first in the opening game, plating two runs in the top of the first on an error and an RBI single by Addison Lindsey. Beloit would match that with two runs of their own in the bottom half of that inning, before taking their first lead with two in the following inning.

Ripon tied the score at four in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Claire Luebke and a run-scoring pinch-hit single by Abby Gilbertson. Beloit broke that tie with a run in the fifth, but Ripon grabbed the lead back in the top of the sixth on RBI singles from Brennah Bronk and Cortney Bols. Beloit then tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI triple, before scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Ripon's 10 hits came from just four players combined. Luebke was 3-for-3 at the dish, while Bronk, Bols, and Lindsey each finished with two hits.

The second game of the doubleheader saw Beloit strike quickly with four runs in the first. Ripon clawed their way back into the game with two runs in the second, both coming on a Taylor Natzke double to left center. Ripon added another run in the following inning when Lindsey singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Bronk from third. The Red Hawks tied the score at four in the top of the fifth when Gilbertson singled to drive in Anna Bauer.

Beloit answered with three runs in the bottom of that inning, scoring on a single, a sac fly, and an error. They would tack on an insurance run on an RBI single in the sixth.

Ripon again finished the game with 10 hits, led by two apiece from Lindsey and Bauer, who also scored two runs in the game.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll host Lawrence University in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. That can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/, with LiveStats available at https://static.riponredhawks.com/custompages/LiveStats/Softball/xlive.htm.
