Ripon Splits With Lawrence In Tale of Two Games

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's softball team split their doubleheader with Lawrence University Saturday afternoon in a pair of games that were the polar opposites of each other. The Red Hawks dominated the first game 10-0 in five innings, before turning around and losing game two by a score of 13-0, also in five innings.

The Red Hawks scored in every inning in which they batted during game one. They got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Abby Gilbertson, who would later come around to score on an error. They tacked on another run in the third when Micaela Encarnacion doubled to left to drive in Taylor Natzke from first base.

Ripon blew the game wide open in the third, which saw the Red Hawks score five runs on six hits. Alyssa Banta and Brennah Bronk each recorded an RBI single, while Encarnacion drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double. They would cap the scoring in the fourth, scoring two more runs on an RBI triple by Kayley Grabowski and another run-scoring single off the bat of Banta.

Encarnacion led Ripon's 12-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance and four RBI, which is tied for 10th in program history for a single game. Gilbertson, Banta, and Addison Lindsey each finished with two hits. Nine different Ripon players scored at least one run in the contest. Banta also earned the victory in the circle, scattering five hits in five innings, while striking out six batters.

The tables turned in the second game, as Lawrence took the lead with a run in the top of the first. They would add seven runs on five hits in the second to blow the game wide open, before adding another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

Ripon's only hit in the game came off the bat of Bronk on a single in the third inning. Lawrence finished the game with 14 hits, including four doubles and one home run.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Sunday when they'll travel to De Pere, Wis. to battle St. Norbert in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Those games can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/#live, with LiveStats available at https://www.snc.edu/athletics/teamfiles/livestats/xlive.htm.
