Ripon Loses Doubleheader To University of Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - Ripon dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader at University of Chicago, losing the first game 9-1, before also falling in the nightcap, 8-2.

Chicago got out to an early lead in game one of the twinbill, scoring twice in the bottom of the first and six more times in the second. The Maroons added another run in the fourth. Ripon's only run of the game came in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Keegan Johnston, which allowed Nick Terrell to score from first base.

Ripon was out-hit by a 17-3 margin, with their three hits coming from Terrell, Johnston, and Jake Cedar. Hunter Thompson pitched excellent in relief, allowing just one run on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work, while striking out four.

The second game of the day saw Chicago again jump on the board first with one run in each of the first two innings. Ripon cut that lead in half in the top of the fourth when Jake Pankratz scored on a groundout. The Red Hawks tied things up the sixth when Nick Tenny scored on a wild pitch.

That tie lasted until the bottom of that same inning when Chicago scored two runs on an RBI triple and a bunt single. The Maroons added another run in the seventh, before scoring three more times in the eighth.

Out-hit 14-3, Ripon's three hits came from Pankratz, Terrell, and Cedar.

The Red Hawks will try to have a short memory Sunday afternoon as they'll host this same Chicago team at Francis Field in Ripon. That doubleheader will begin at Noon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/, with LiveStats available at https://static.riponredhawks.com/custompages/LiveStats/Baseball/xlive.htm.
