Ripon Drops Pair of Games To Chicago

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College baseball team lost both games of their doubleheader Sunday afternoon against University of Chicago. Ripon dropped the first game 12-5, before narrowly losing the nightcap 5-3.

The day's first game saw Chicago score at least one run in each of the first three innings, taking a 6-0 lead with a three-run third inning. Ripon got on the board in the bottom of that frame on RBI singles from Keegan Johnston and Dane O'Donnell.

Chicago added to their lead later in the game with three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and another in the seventh. Johnston recorded another RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Ripon pushed across two more in the ninth on a two-run homer off the bat of Nick Terrell, his fifth of the season.

Terrell led Ripon with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while scoring three of the team's five runs, with Jake Pankratz scoring the other two. Johnston finished with two hits, while O'Donnell and Evan Barbian each recorded one.

Game two again saw Chicago strike first, with a run in the opening inning. The Maroons added another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, before taking a 5-0 lead with a run in the top of the eighth. Ripon got on the board in the bottom of that inning, scoring on a balk, an RBI single from Pankratz, and a sac fly by Nick Latendresse, but it wasn't enough to overcome Chicago's early lead.

The Red Hawks finished the game with five hits, with two coming from Pankratz. Terrell, Woller, and Owen Greene each finished with one hit.

Ripon will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Beloit College. That doubleheader will begin at Noon in Beloit, Wis., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
