RIPON, Wis. - In what was a tale of two games Saturday afternoon, Ripon split their doubleheader with Lake Forest, with the winning team scoring in double digits in both contests. Lake Forest won the initial game 10-0 in five innings, before Ripon took game two 13-1, also in five innings.
Game one saw conference-leading Lake Forest score 10 runs on 12 hits, while only allowing two Ripon hits. The Foresters scored two runs in the second and another in the third, before ending the game with three in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Ripon's two hits came from
Abby Gilbertson and
Riley Breider.
The polar opposite of game one, the second game of the doubleheader saw Ripon's bats come alive, as they scored six runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed in the contest. The first runs came on
Claire Luebke's 10th double of the season, allowing
Micaela Encarnacion and
Brennah Bronk to score. Gilbertson then drove home Luebke with a double of her own.
Victoria Duran would double that lead when she connected on a bases loaded single, which cleared the bases after the ball bounced past the rightfielder, who tried to make a diving catch.
After Lake Forest scored their only run in the top of the second, Ripon added to their lead in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits and one error.
Anna Bauer drove in the first run of the inning on a single to left, which ws later followed by an RBI from
Kayley Grabowski. Duran drove in two more runs with a single to left center, before
Mikaela Lawrence crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Bronk also drove in a run during that inning on a single to left center.
Ripon's 13 runs came on just nine hits, as they drew five walks and took first twice when they were hit by a pitch. Duran led the offensive attack with a 2-for-3 performance and five RBI, which ranks second in school history for a single game. Gilbertson and Bronk each finished with two hits. Luebke earned the win in the circle, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out two in a complete game performance.
The Red Hawks will be back at it tomorrow, as they'll travel to Appleton, Wis. to battle Lawrence University in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Those games can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
