RIPON, Wis. - Ripon controlled Tuesday's game from start to finish against Grinnell, defeating the Pioneers 62-45. The Red Hawks shot 40 percent (22-55) from the field, while holding Grinnell to just 31 percent (18-58) shooting.
Alison Leslie scored the first five points of the game to give Ripon a quick start. The Red Hawks would dominate the first quarter, taking a 21-6 lead into the second period. They would outscore the Pioneers by two points in the second frame to take a 14-point advantage into halftime.
The Red Hawks continued to pour it on in the second half, leading by as many as 23 points. Nearly half of Ripon's points (30) came in the paint, while the Red Hawks also scored 17 points off 18 Grinnell turnovers.
Leslie led all scorers with 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.
Bonnie Jensen added 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while
Bella Opelt recorded five points, four rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
Grinnell was led by Erin Lillis' 16 points and five rebounds, while Nicole Ware registered 10 points.
