Leslie Shatters School Records In Win At Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Ripon's women's basketball team defeated Illinois College 80-72 Saturday afternoon behind school records of 38 points and 10 three-pointers from junior Alison Leslie. The Red Hawks shot 41 percent (29-70) from the field, which included 12 three-pointers, which ties a team single game school record.

The first quarter was hotly contested, with four lead changes, four by each team. Ripon (6-8, 5-0 MWC) scored the first five points of the game, before Illinois College (3-7, 2-3 MWC) scored nine consecutive points to take their first lead of the contest. Ripon then ended the period on a 10-5 run to take a one-point advantage into the second quarter. Leslie then connected on four threes in that period, including three in the final three minutes to give Ripon a 40-27 halftime lead.

Ripon led by double digits for the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 16. The Red Hawks scored 32 points in the paint, while forcing 15 Illinois College turnovers.

Fifteen of Leslie's 38 points came during the final quarter. She converted four-of-five 3-pointers after halftime, including all three she attempted in the final frame, while also adding five rebounds. Skyylar Brescia added 13 points and nine boards off the bench, while Bonnie Jensen recorded 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Illinois College was led by 19 points from both Junie Zirkelbach and Kendra Bass, who converted five three-pointers of her own. Lilly Pepper added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Blues.

The Red Hawks will try to remain undefeated in the MWC on Wednesday when they'll host Lawrence University. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Ripon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
