RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon College women's soccer team knocked off Maranatha Baptist Tuesday afternoon by a 3-0 score.
The Red Hawks improve to 2-8-2 on the season while the Sabercats stand at 1-9.
Head coach
Jennifer Dimos' team netted what turned out to be the match-winning goal midway through the first half before rattling off a pair of quick scores in the second stanza for the three-goal win.
In the 26
th minute of action,
Kaley Kowal found
Cielo Gutierrez for the score.
The Red Hawks nearly added to the lead two other times in the half, but Kowal and
Alexis Piette's shots were stopped by Mallory Willette.
After not finding the back of the net on the first two shots of the second period, Gutierrez found
Mandy Barlow, who promptly blasted the shot past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage at the 56:14 mark.
Five minutes later, Dimos' squad extended the advantage when Kowal ripped a shot that found the back of the net for the final 3-0 score.
For the match, Ripon College held a 16-4 edge in shots, including a 10-4 margin in shots on goal.
With a solid defensive effort, the quartet of keepers managed to turn away every attempt by the visitors for the shutout. In goal,
Britt Hable and
Mary Elliot each had a save while
Andreanna Wilke notched a pair of saves.
Erin Selfe also saw time between the pipes but did not face a shot on goal.
Offensively, Gutierrez led the way with five shots, including two on frame.
Mackenzie Weber notched four shots, including two on target. Both of Kowal's attempts were on goal.
Ripon is on the road this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for its fourth conference match of the season when it travels to Monmouth College.
