Volleyball Falls In Road Trip To Cornell, Back In Action Saturday

MT VERNON, Iowa – The Ripon College volleyball team took on Cornell College on Friday evening in the front end of Midwest Conference weekend, but the Red Hawks ended up on the short side of a 3-0 match. Inesha Wiseman led the team in kills once again, and she has now racked up 10 or more in six consecutive contests.

The two squads went back and forth for the bulk of the first set, but the turning point came late, as the Rams rattled off three straight points to take an 18-17 lead. The Red Hawks stayed close for the duration of the opening set, but Cornell eventually held on for a 25-21 set win.

The Rams got into a rhythm early in Set Two, jumping out to a commanding 10-1 advantage before later riding a streak of eight straight points to a 2-0 victory. Ripon returned to form for the first part of the final set, but Cornell again got comfortable, scoring 15 of the final 21 points to finish off the sweep.

For the Red Hawks, Riley Nielsen racked up 22 assists, while Tayja Cornell and Sam Thrasher picked up 15 and 13 digs respectively. Ripon matched Cornell in the ace category, with Thrasher, Cornell and Bella Kasuboski recording one apiece.

The Red Hawks wrap up the weekend with another league road duel against Grinnell College on Saturday afternoon. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. from Darby Gymnasium.
