GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Ripon College men's tennis team lost their season-opening match Friday afternoon, falling to Saint Mary's (Minn.) University by a score of 8-1.
Ripon's only team point came at the number three doubles flight where
Preston Wurtz and
Eugene Pliska teamed up to defeat Matt Besek and Caden Rodning by a score of 8-7. Saint Mary's (2-2) won the other two doubles matches by a comeined score of 16-7.
In singles play, Saint Mary's won all six matches, with the most competitive coming at the number four and six singles flights. At number four singles, Ripon's
Ty Rondestvedt lost to Peter Quinn 6-3, 1-6, 6-10, while Pliska lost at number six singles, 6-4, 1-6, 8-10.
The Red Hawks (0-1) will try to rebound on Sunday when they'll host Wartburg College at 9 a.m. at The Field House inside Willmore Center in Ripon, Wis.
