CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon's first day of their week-long excursion to Florida yielded their first victory of the 2022 season on Sunday, as they ended the day with a 5-1 victory against McDaniel College to split a pair of games at The Spring Games. The Red Hawks began the day with a 10-0 loss to Edgewood in five innings.
After that first game of the day, the Red Hawks (1-7) refocused and played their best game all year, led by the pitching performance of sophomore Savanna Trittlewitz, who allowed just four hits, notching a career-high nine strikeouts, while walking just one of the 29 batters she faced.
Â
Trittlewitz fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second, which was the only run she'd allow all day. Her teammates lifted her up with plenty of run support, scoring three runs in the third on a two-run single up the middle by
Maddie Hablewitz and a sac fly off the bat of
Riley Breider. Hablewitz would drive in two more runs in the fifth on a single to the shortstop.
Â
Ripon finished the game with 10 hits, with two apiece coming from Hablewitz,
Micaela Encarnacion, and
Brennah Bronk, who also went 2-for-3 in the day's first game.
Â
The Red Hawks will face this same McDaniel team in Monday's first game at 10:15 a.m. ET, with a contest against Amherst College to follow at 12:15 p.m. ET. Both games will again be played at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.
