AUBURNDALE, Wis. - The Ripon College baseball team extended their winning streak to three games Monday morning with a 5-2 win against Amherst College, as the Red Hawks are yet to lose a game on their Spring Trip.
Although Ripon (3-2) would ultimately win, it was Amherst (1-1) who struck first, scoring a run in both the first and second inning. The Red Hawks would tie the score at two with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by
Nick Terrell and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of
Brock Warren. One inning later, Ripon took their first lead of the game on an RBI single by
Evan Barbian, and they would never relinquish that lead. They scored two insurance runs in the ninth on an Amherst error and an RBI single from
Cam Stampfl.
Mitchell Lukasik (1-0) was efficient in his first career start for the Red Hawks, allowing just one earned run on five hits, while striking out three in eight innings of work.
Jake Pankratz picked up his first save of the year, pitching a hitless ninth inning.
Terrell continued his torrid start to the season, going 4-for-5 at the dish to raise his season batting average to .450. Stampfl added two base hits for the Red Hawks.
Ripon will have Tuesday off, before getting back on the field Wednesday when they'll face Anderson University at 10 a.m. ET.
